A Leaf Storm of Autumnal Updates

It looks like we’ve got a lot of ground to cover. We’re doing some fun and interesting things at Normal Happenings, and I’m excited to give you the guided tour!

The Smallest Redesign Ever

We’d like you to take a moment to just look around. We’ve made some very subtle tweaks around the site that we feel compliments the site design in meaningful ways. Here are just a handful:

  • We’ve redone the main menu!
    • Gone are the three categories of blog topics, instead replaced by a simple POSTS link. Too many posts were blurring lines, so we got rid of them completely. Any posts that aren’t part of a fiction project will go here for your convenience.
    • The ABOUT and CONTACT items have merged.
    • Dysontopia, my novel project, now has its own section.
    • We’ve added a drop-down menu for SUPPORT. One link will take you to our amazing patrons, the other to our Patreon site.
    • Do you like that touch of yellow on the SUPPORT link? Me too!
    • And, of course, you’ll notice the brand new INKLINGS link! Those are daily writing prompts to inspire your creativity. More on that later.
  • We’ve taken off the black-and-white filter from the home page. Now things are bursting with color!
  • Did you notice the slight change of the ink smear on the home page? If you miss the old one, it’s still the cover photo on our Twitter.
  • We’ve also added Twitter and Instagram timelines to our footer, as well as some Patreon insignia!

We hope you enjoy and appreciate these subtle changes! Speaking of Inklings…

Daily Inkling Difficulty Levels

We’ve decided on a couple of very small updates to the Daily Inkling formula. The biggest thing is we’re adding difficulty levels to each prompt. We realized that some of our posts are dang hard, such as the palindrome one, and other are fun and simple romps. So I took some cues from Super Mario Maker and am now categorizing the difficulties. We feel this is an elegant solution that will help you determine what kind of challenge you want to take on.

Beginner
normal
expert
superexpert2

We’ve also decided to post them on weekends as well, meaning a full seven days of Inklings! You can access the difficulty levels up in the main menu under the INKLINGS link. Only prompts from that difficulty level will show up based on your selection.

We hope you enjoy!

Twitter

This one is simple. I tweet. A lot. And it’s the official means of communication for Normal Happenings collabs and news. Plus we’re having a pretty awesome time with our Super Smash Bros. Tourney Mode right now, and we need your votes.

If you have a Twitter and you’re not following, I’m a little flummoxed. You should go do that.

Dysontopia

Megan from A Geeky Gal and I are still working on the Dysontopia rebranding, and there are rumors of some pretty rad book cover photography in the works.

In the meantime, I have started redoing the first four chapters. There are some story elements I want to add, and I’m now thinking about releasing each chapter at once, as opposed to 1000-word sections. You can expect a drop-down menu to appear on that DYSONTOPIA link up top with each chapter being a sub-selection.

Patreon Rewards Are Coming

We promise we haven’t forgotten about you guys and your Patreon reward groups. With the restructuring of Dysontopia, we’ve been working on a special method to get everyone in one place. Be patient with us a little longer. Oh and, as always, thank you for your amazing support. Each of you are awesome!

The Games That Define Us

Last and certainly not least, I would say that we’re at about 95% of the way finished with the writing process for The Games That Define Us! It is simply amazing how diligent a group of 35 incredible bloggers can be. I only hope my designs, formatting, and editing can do these detailed, moving pieces justice. It is going to be one amazing November, that’s for sure.

If you’re not following each of these incredible bloggers, you really should be. Everything they write deserves to be in your reader, and we cannot wait to show you what they have come up with. And, of course, if you’re not following Normal Happenings, you should probably scroll down and click that follow button. We wouldn’t want you missing out.

A bright future is ahead for everyone! Let us know in the comments what you are most looking forward to.
