Nice Job Badges! | July 6

Happy Friday, or as my wife so affectionately calls it, Friyay! Let’s get back on track with this week’s Nice Job Badges, of which we have a typically excellent variety.

But first, let me take a selfie… err, moment to talk about this super cool Hyrule Collaboration Blog that’s coming up on Wednesday! Namely, that I’m so happy with all the wonderful contributions I’ve gotten from these amazing bloggers. I’m getting the last batch of contributions over the weekend, and then it’ll be a long few days of intense design and editing.

So, again, Hyrule: See the sights! Hear the Sounds! will be released on Wednesday, July 11 at 10:00 A.M. EST! That’s approximately 3:00 P.M. for my U.K. audience! From more info, you can check out this post. You should also be sure to follow the amazing contributors listed at the end of this post.

Anyway, let’s get on with it — Nice Job Badge time! These are five blog links from this week that deserve a high-five and a “nice job!”

  • If someone makes an amazing post one week, then makes another the next, I will feature them two weeks in a row.
  • I will not typically feature the same blogger twice on one list, unless I’m really blown away.
  • The posts will all loosely be from the current seven day period.
  • They are in no particular order because they’re all great.
  • Hey, you should totally put the badge on your recognized piece with a pingback to this post!

The Lifelong Challenges of Adoptees | Super Jan

Imagine, if you will, that all you have ever known in your life is challenge. Those numerous challenges would certainly shape your life to be much different than the life of someone who has never experienced such an abundance of challenge. An abundance of trauma. Adoptees face more traumas, and more challenges, than many other people, and it affects their lives in ways that we are just beginning to understand.

Talented writer Jan (and overachieving Hyrule Collab contributor) really moved me this week with her exploration of adoptees and their stories. Through her work with Search Angels, she’s had the opportunity to hear the struggles and unique experiences from a group that not a lot of people stop to consider.

There is only one thing disappointing about this article, and it’s not in the writing. It’s in the fact that, as I type this, the post only has three likes. It’s well worth the read everyone, so let’s go change that!

On Loss, and Dealing With It | OverThinker Y

I want to talk about death, or about reacting to death: grief, mourning, bereavement. It’s not a topic I’ve really addressed before, and if I’m honest I still feel as I write this that in some ways I shouldn’t be writing about it, that I’m not entitled or qualified to do so.

Newcomer OverThinker Y has presented a remarkable concept for a blog. It’s about the fact that video games present you with a type of virtual death all the time, but all it takes is a reset or an extra life to circumvent that and try again. Real-life death is much more impacting and permanent, yet video games can teach us some very valuable lessons about the topic. I rarely see such a personal touch to blog posts like this, which makes it a great read.

Nintendo DS Essentials: 42 All-Time Classics (Clubhouse Games) | MoeGamer

42 All-Time Classics proved to be a wonderfully compelling surprise when I first picked it up back in the day, and it’s a cartridge that still regularly finds its way into my DS nearly fifteen years after its original release.

As I mentioned during my contribution post for The Well-Red Mage, Clubhouse Games is my deserted island game. That is, if I were stranded on a deserted island with nothing but a DS, a charger, and one game, I would give up every game I own for this one. New follower MoeGamer apparently thinks highly of the title as well, writing a glowing review of the title. Go check out this great blog — I know a lot of you will like the Wednesday feature, which I will not spoil here.

A split second | Unoriginal (love) noteS

A turn. A pulse,
a scent, a smile.
Dream fades
and shatters
for a while.

Lizardin Bain has been on some kind of incredible poem binge lately, of which this one is my favorite from past few weeks. It’s challenging to describe the quality of poems, but you can really tell this amazing blogger has put a lot of work into these pieces of late. Well worth running through all of the latest poets, and particularly this one. It’s always nice to have some expressive creativity in your reader.

Film Review – Hearts Beat Loud (2018) | MovieBabble

After delighting critics and fans at Sundance back in January, Hearts Beat Loud has finally come to theaters, and it probably deserves way more recognition from general audiences.

Let’s end this week’s badges by sending you over to MovieBabble, where the gang has reviewed the cool indie film, Hearts Beat Loud, that I’ve really wanted to see of late. The review has spurred me into action of trying to find the thing on the big screen, only to be disappointed that it’s only being shown in one St. Louis theater with no good times. That’s okay, I guess. It takes like .254 seconds for a film to go from theaters to streaming services, so I guess I’ll settle for that. Anyway, MovieBabble is an amazing blog for film reviews you should truly check out!

Did I miss any links you think deserve recognition? Do a Nice Job by sharing them with us in the comments!

Go be sure to follow/bookmark/stalk these amazing bloggers, who are contributing to the Hyrule Collaboration blog!
